So bossy

Thursday, Nov 1

Credit where credit is due: Bears coach Matt Nagy knows just when to motivate QB Mitch Trubisky. "Every now and then, if I feel there's a time when I've got to talk to him and have a little one-on-one conversation, I'll do it," the rookie head coach said. "When I talk to him, I want it to mean something." It meant something Sunday vs. the Jets — after a less-than-stellar 1st half, a post-pep talk Trubisky completed 11 of 16 passes. What, you ask, were Nagy's magic words? It was all captured on an in-game microphone: "You take this thing over right now." Bossy! But effective. The QB did his talking yesterday: Topics included his arm slot and … the Bills Mafia? Oh sure. Also yesterday, Nagy offered few updates on Khalil Mack (ankle sprain) and Kyle Long (right foot injury). Oh sure, now you don't use your magic words, Nagy.

And another one

Better effort, but same result from the Bulls: Another loss. "We have to learn how to win," Zach LaVine said after the 108-107 OT defeat. Yeah, Fred Hoiberg and his job security would probably appreciate that greatly.

Turn back the clock

This just in: Derrick Rose (yes him!) scored 50 points (50 points!) for the Timberwolves last night. To repeat: Derrick Rose scored a career-high 50 points in 2018. "It's all just coming together, but it took 6, 7 years."

On the road again

The Hawks started their 3-game road trip without an ill Patrick Kane and with a 4-2 loss. Corey Crawford made 24 saves, but the Canucks scored all their goals over his shoulders (need some '80s blazers, my man).

Pass x 2

In the debate between which marquee free agent the Cubs should lure to Chicago this offseason — Manny Machado or Bryce Harper — David Haugh says Theo & Co. should just say no. To both. Pick us pick us, says us!

'I'm blessed'

Battling cancer twice in 8 years, enduring chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant gave Chicago State coach Lance Irvin a different perspective. It's also a testament to the bond between him and 5 siblings.
