Inside Slant

Oh no, not again

Wednesday, Oct 31

On Sunday, Kyle Long was unable to put weight on his right foot after leaving the Bears' 24-10 win with an injury. On Tuesday, Long wheeled through the Halas Hall locker room on a scooter with his foot elevated and in a boot. And, so it seems, the 3-time Pro Bowler is facing another extended absence — possibly a 3rd-straight season-ending injury. It's not a pretty picture for the offensive lineman and the Bears, so what's the next step for both? Rich Campbell and Dan Wiederer talk it out in this week's Real Talk (and also on Facebook Live). In other Bears news, Danny Trevathan reveals the very-much-in-my-feels story behind "the best surprise I ever had," Taylor Gabriel is a big Jason Witten fan (who knew?) and Mitch Trubisky's draft buddies are very good and that's just not fair. And now, on to Week 9.

Fuzzy math

How are the Bears first in the NFC North, yet behind the Packers and Vikings in our power rankings? Brad Biggs explains. On the fantasy football front, the winners and losers from a meh deadline day. Be better next year, NFL.

The more the merrier

Will the Cubs go after (and ultimately land) Bryce Harper in free agency? The price is high, and more importantly, what will the slugger mean for the Bryzzo empire and friendship goals? Something to think about, Theo.

First offering

The 1st batch of College Football Playoff rankings are in and yes, the committee hates your team and that's why they were snubbed. At No. 4, Notre Dame is a tad bummed. But at No. 5, Michigan is a tad thrilled.

Where's the Love-ie?

The Illini, currently 1-4 in the Big Ten, has no sense of direction in Year 3 of the Lovie Smith era. The standard is so low in Champaign, Shannon Ryan writes, that even a competitive loss would feel like a win. Yikes.

Not his fault

Bobby Portis is currently on the DL — "I'll be back at full strength and I'll be back doing what Bobby Portis does" — so you can't pin any of those sad Bulls-Warriors stats on him. Speaking of, Steve Rosenbloom has thoughts.
