Inside Slant

Thanks NBA! No seriously, thanks.

Thursday, Mar 8

The Bulls heeded the NBA's warning and played real players last night vs. the Grizzlies. Well, Robin Lopez and his T-shirt still rested. Justin Holiday started and scored 14 points in 17 minutes. And the Bulls handed Memphis a 15th straight loss. Steve Rosenbloom says thanks. Really! No sarcasm! He (and everyone else — and we do mean everyone) can only watch so many losses in this tank-a-thon. Today in Derrick Rose news: Derrick Rose signed with the TimberBulls, er, Timberwolves.

Deep breaths

Javier Baez left today's spring game with a leg injury. More details here. Elsewhere, the Astros think they'll avoid the dreaded World Series hangover because, and we quote, "We're not the Cubs." Snaps.

Ready for his close-up

Eloy Jimenez is lobbying Rick Renteria to let him play Saturday vs. the Cubs. It's on TV! Clearly, he was inspired by fellow White Sox prospect Luis Robert's big game last night — game-winning grand slam hello!

Wanted: Leaders

Ahoy! All of the Bears captains from the 2017 are gone. And now, 29-year-old Kyle Long is the oldest guy around. Whoa. Adding one of these young cornerbacks won't help that, but it will help the defense (in theory).

Swirling unrest

Discontent, thy name is DePaul men's basketball. AD Jean Lenti Ponsetto is preaching patience: "It doesn't happen overnight." The women's program is rolling right along, per usual, thanks to Doug Bruno.

Meet me on the ice

Let's just say Scott Darling is a little eager for tonight's game (7:30 p.m., NBCSCH). "It's a day I've had circled on my calendar," the Hurricanes goalie said. Safe to say the Hawks have too: Darling is 3-10-3 in his last 18.
