Inside Slant

Oh, Canada

Thursday, Feb 22

Anyone else take a nap at their desk today? Jocelyne Lamoureux-Davidson's gold-winning goal at 1:15 a.m. CT was a triumph for U.S. women's hockey — and a setback for workplace productivity. The shootout win (but why a shootout?) over Canada snapped the Americans' 20-year gold medal drought. "They should make a movie on it," Hilary Knight said. With so much drama, who could blame Canada's Jocelyne Larocque for yanking that silver medal off her neck. Throw in a huge curling upset (yeah, you heard us), and for 6 hours the United States owned Canada like a Tim Hortons franchise. Elsewhere in medal-land: A silver for Mikaela Shiffrin (women's alpine combine), silver for Jamie Anderson (women's big air snowboarding) and gold for David Wise (men's freestyle skiing halfpipe). Tonight: The final figure skating medals will be awarded in the women's free skate.

Fifth wheel?

Everyone knows the Cubs' fab four: Yu, Q, Kyle and Jon. But don't sleep on the No. 5 starter, Tyler Chatwood. Headed to Arizona for Friday's opener? 1. Be patient. 2. Eat here. And 3. Always hit the cutoff man.

Starting nod

First up for the White Sox: Dylan Covey. Soon behind him: Tyler Danish. Spring training baseball will be on your radio/streaming online tomorrow. And Dave Duncan will be watching. No pressure, young dudes.

Full tank ahead

All aboard the Bulls' rebuilding train. Yes you, Cameron Payne. But not you, Robin Lopez, who will sit for the 1st time this season (7 p.m., NBCSCH). Said Fred Hoiberg: "It is hard for a guy like Robin." And for our eyes.

Winner winner

"It's like the lottery," said goalie Anton Forsberg. And for one night, the Hawks had the winning numbers in a shootout against the Senators. What does the rare win mean for Ryan Hartman's trade deadline watching?

All theirs

Loyola clinched its 1st solo conference title since 1987 last night: "Our guys talked about getting (rid) of the 'co-,'" Porter Moser said after the win. For Northwestern, special senior night uniforms tonight. And a familiar shriek.
