Inside Slant

He guaranteed it

Monday, Feb 5

Pictured: Alshon Jeffery hauling in a twisting 34-yard touchdown during the Eagles' Super Bowl win. Not pictured: Bears fans cursing about what could have been. Here, have some more spinach and artichoke dip. The underdog Eagles weren't the only big winners last night — Tide pods, the Payton kids and Prince (but not you, Justin Timberlake) also had a good showing. Nick Foles had a pretty, pretty good outing too: The Super Bowl MVP might just be the best underdog story out there (the quarterback even caught a touchdown pass!). Kinda makes you believe anything is possible, eh, Mitch Trubisky? And finally, in some very important former Bears news: Brian Urlacher is a first ballot Hall of Famer.

Everyone must go

Trade deadline = Thursday, and the Bulls are open for business. Anyone want a Robin Lopez (hair included)? On the flip side, Omer Asik is glad to be back, even though he might not play. Tonight: Late tip vs. Kings (9 p.m., WGN).

Baby steps

Injured Hawks goalie Corey Crawford practiced for a 3rd straight day today. So he'll play … soon? "It's probably not that far away," per Coach Q. Phew, say the Blackhawks, as time is slowly running out for a playoff push.

Waiting game

Just how stubborn can some of baseball's big-name free agents be? With spring training set to begin in less than 10 days, we're about to find out. One sizable name is off the board: 44-year-old Bartolo Colon (to the Rangers).

Chicago's very own

Bobsledder Aja Evans, a Morgan Park HS grad who is ready to compete in her 2nd Olympics, is unwavering in her determination: "I refused to let anyone tell me I couldn't." That's some good advice. Now go get that gold.

Rambling men

Dig teams with unselfish players and a free-flowing offense? "Tell the people in Chicago to come to Loyola basketball," Marques Townes said of his 19-5 squad. If not, there's just B1G confusion and Tom Izzo silence.
