By Rauner's own standards, he's a miserable failure on jobs

Tuesday, Jan 30

When he was running for governor in 2014, Bruce Rauner said Gov. Pat Quinn was "a miserable failure on jobs," and the Republican candidate promised that, if elected, he would get results. But Rauner has failed to deliver, underperformed his predecessor and thus exposed the emptiness and hypocrisy of his attacks on Quinn as well as his own fecklessness, writes Eric Zorn.

Does Rauner stand a chance at re-election?

Put on your political analyst hat and forecast whether Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner can secure a second term in office. Will he be upset by state Rep. Jeanne Ives in the primary? (If you missed their first and only scheduled debate, watch it here.) And even if his political career survives the March 20 election, will he be able to top the Democratic nominee? We're also interested in hearing from former Rauner supporters who've lost hope and 2014 voters who are sticking with him. Send your thoughts and predictions to letters@chicagotribune.com, and we'll select a few for publication.

Beware the paranoid style of Trump's politics

Thanks to Trump, a paranoid style of politics has moved all the way from internet chatrooms to the White House, writes Clarence Page.

Hillary Clinton and I are done

Hillary Clinton isn't to blame for the terrible decision-making by men in her life. But she is responsible for how she handled sexual harassment allegations against an aide in her 2008 campaign.
