Inside Slant

The future is this weekend

Friday, Jan 26

SoxFest 2018 is sold out. That's a strong indication of either A. Support for the White Sox's future plans and future stars or B. Support for that amazing Hawk Harrelson bobblehead. We're leaning toward Option A slightly. So when will top pitching prospect Michael Kopech be called up to the majors? "For the most part, I just defer those questions to Rick Hahn," he said. "I feel like I'm ready." Calling him up sooner would also help the Sox settle that pesky radio problem … just sayin'. Meanwhile, in the NL Central — here come the Brewers? Your move, Cubs.

More news

Michigan State AD Mark Hollis stepped down today, the 2nd university official in days to leave amid the Larry Nassar fallout. Also today, a congressional hearing was announced. And that's a must, writes Sally Jenkins.

Senioritis

At this week's Senior Bowl practices, wide receiver Michael Gallup and tackle Brian O'Neill stood out the most. How will that shape the NFL draft? Luckily for the Bears, they have a "complete technician" in house already.

Happy birthday

Rajon Rondo's fire emoji of an Instagram post turns 1 today. Fortunately for Fred Hoiberg, this year's Bulls squad is more amenable to his coaching style. Tonight: The David Nwaba revenge game (7 p.m., NBCSCH)?

Did you know ...

Patrick Kane first appeared on an NHL card when he was just 6 years old. Here's the story behind the card — it's a doozy. Last night: A hat trick from Alex DeBrincat --> 5-1 Blackhawks win. Up next: The All-Star break.

Etc.

Jemele Hill is out as co-host of "SportsCenter," but isn't out at ESPN. … We sent our Teddy Greenstein to the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta, and he filed this report … And Roger Federer, still very good at tennis.
