Inside Slant

Well, then.

Tuesday, Jan 23

It was Bulls 82, Pelicans 81 after 3 quarters. Then suddenly, the Bulls led 104-86 in the 4th quarter. And then, Justin Holiday missed a chance to win the game at the line in regulation. And then, the Bulls lost in double OT. That's a whole lot of "Huh?" to cram into one road game. The end result is still somewhat positive: The rebuild appears ahead of schedule, meaning a shorter time in lottery land for the Bulls. And, because you wanted to know our opinion, Candy Land > Lottery Land.

Hurry back

Spotted at the United Center: Corey Crawford. Coach Q said the injured goalie is getting closer to a return to the ice. The Blackhawks need him — they are 5-6-1 in his absence, including a 2-0 loss for a 3rd straight defeat.

Hey, look over there

All eyes are on QBs at the Senior Bowl — and that's good news for the Bears, who own the No. 8 pick. Brad Biggs gives you 6 other names to watch. Watching is all Mark Helfrich did last season, so he's good to go now.

Yu tell us

Talks are reportedly heating up between the Cubs and Yu Darvish (also between the popular free-agent pitcher and the Brewers, Rangers and Twins). But did the Cubs just sweeten the pot by signing a backup catcher?

Rock bottom

The Illini have matched their worst B1G record since 1906-07. Imagine the tweets aimed at coach Frank Loyer Pinckney back then (yes, we googled it) … Tom Crean, who knows all about fan angst, is happy at ESPN — for now.

Etc.

To quote this brave Eagles fan: "I'm not throwing bottles or punching horses, it was just running into a pole." Ouch. Elsewhere: A-Rod has a new job, Kobe Bryant is nominated for an Oscar and Rafael Nadal is going home.
