Weather driving you batty? At least there's baseball

Monday, Feb 11

Oh, to be in Arizona right now. First, it'd be nice to avoid the gross weather in Chicago of late. Second, it'd be fun to soak up the spring training positivity surrounding the Cubs and Sox. What awaits each team in 2019? We encourage fans to consider these questions facing the Cubs and these facing the Sox. There is no question how Cubs slugger Kyle Schwarber would like to spend his career, and it's not as a full-time DH. White Sox slugger Nick Madrigal's all about swinging the bat as well, and his knack for putting the ball in play could fast-track him to the majors. No one's sure yet where prized free agent Manny Machado will spend this season, though we know he was at the baptism for Albert Almora's son. And could the Cubs' loss to the Rockies in last year's NL wild-card game actually be a good thing? Willson Contreras believes so, adding "We needed that kick in the butt."

Still in the market

Kareem Hunt, who was captured on video shoving and kicking a woman in a Cleveland hotel last year, will not be reunited with Bears coach Matt Nagy. But that doesn't mean the Bears aren't in the market for a running back.

Step aside, Patriots

The first game of the NFL season typically is hosted by the reigning NFL champ. But the NFL reportedly is considering putting Packers at Bears in that Sept. 5 slot. Talk about kicking off the Bears' 100th anniversary in style.

Woe place like home

The Bulls keep finding themselves on the wrong side of history, having lost their 11th straight home game Monday to extend a franchise record. Their offense sputtered, too — and just when it looked like it was heating up.

Mind the net

Corey Crawford is inching ever so slightly toward a return. Collin Delia earned himself a contract extension. So what will the suddenly resurgent Blackhawks do with all these goalies?

On the up

Illinois is a on roll and has the Big Ten player of the week. DePaul is on a roll and is on pace for an NIT bid. Promising signs or false dawns? Shannon Ryan ranks the state's Division I college hoops teams.
