A 'collaborative' effort

Wednesday, Jan 3

The Bears conducted their first coaching interview today: Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio. Guessing he didn't have any trouble finding Halas Hall ... Who's got next? Chiefs OC Matt Nagy, Patriots OC Josh McDaniels, Vikings OC Pat Shurmur and Eagles QB coach John DeFilippo are on the docket. GM Ryan Pace will be holding court for those Q&As — with an assist (reportedly) from Bears chairman George McCaskey and team president Ted Phillips. That sounds like the football version of "Meet the Parents," says Steve Rosenbloom. It might not necessarily be wrong to have a team chairman and team president take part in the interview process — unless it's THAT chairman and THAT president with THAT recent awful history. Which begs the question: Do the Bears have the right sales pitch this time around?

Popularity contest

"Brian Urlacher should be a first-ballot Hall of Famer," Packers QB Aaron Rodgers said. That's good enough for us. What about you, Pro Football Hall of Fame? The final vote will be revealed on Feb. 3 before the Super Bowl.

Miss you, warmth

A warm thought on a chilly day: Cubs spring training tickets are on sale this weekend. Sunshine! Shorts! Mark Prior is joining the Dodgers this year … as their new bullpen coach. No, we won't make a towel drill joke.

Growing up so fast

Kris Dunn doesn't need to buy it — because he already owns it. And that's another indicator of the 23-year-old's maturation. Tonight: Home vs. the Raptors, where the Bulls have won 6 straight in the series (7 p.m., NBCSCH).

Young at heart

Jeff Glass, the Hawks' 32-year-old rookie, will make a 3rd straight start in goal tonight vs. the Rangers (7 p.m., NBCSN). Never give up on your dreams, kids. Brandon Saad's dream for his line? To score more goals. Just do it.

Injury updates

Northwestern QB Clayton Thorson tore his ACL at the Music City Bowl and his timeline is unknown. Notre Dame forward Bonzie Colson fractured his foot at basketball practice and is out 8 weeks. Get well soon, y'all.
