Inside Slant

Day 1

Tuesday, Jan 9

Matt Nagy donned his Bears' best for today's introductory press conference: Navy suit with an orange tie. Steve Rosenbloom writes that the new man in charge said all the right things and sounded like the "fired up" young coach he is. Super Bears Super Bowl? Pump the brakes — we've heard all of this coach-speak before and the results didn't live up to the hype. Did someone say hype? Early reviews call the 39-year-old a "rock star," a "superb teacher" and "a leader." Oh boy. Good luck, kid.

Finally

Zach LaVine said he's "anxious" to make his Bulls debut Saturday vs. the Pistons. He hasn't played since Feb. 3, in a game against … the Pistons. Last night: A home loss and a possible trade partner for Nikola Mirotic.

2 seasons in Chicago

Stop us if you've heard this before: There's construction going on at Wrigley Field (and we've got the photos to prove it!). Elsewhere, the full list of Cubs Convention attendees is out and no, Jake Arrieta isn't on it.

Have a seat(brook)

Brent Seabrook, who has played in all but 14 regular-season games since 2006, is a healthy scratch tonight vs. the Senators (6:30 p.m., NBCSCH). The $55M man won't sit long: "We expect him to get back in there."

Walk-off

Now that's the way to end a college football season! Alabama edged Georgia in OT for the championship, giving Nick Saban a 5th title since 2009. One lingering question: Who is Tua Tagovailoa and where has he been hiding?

Etc.

GM Rick Hahn spent his offseason building up what he tore down last season: The White Sox bullpen. LaVar Ball has been hard at work too — tearing down the Lakers coach. And North Korea? They are a go for the Olympics.
