Line 'em up

Friday, Mar 2

A rundown of the Cubs' starting rotation, in order of their order … No. 1: Jon Lester is a dinosaur, and he's cool with it. No. 2: Kyle Hendricks is trying to throw less (in between starts, that is). No. 3: Yu Darvish didn't eat on Wednesday. No. 4: Jose Quintana wants to "get as many wins as I can." And No. 5: Tyler Chatwood is totally a real person. In the bullpen, it's all mental for the young ones. And over in the far away bullpen known as no man's land, Jake Arrieta is still waiting. Maybe he can take a pilates class with the newly svelte Kyle Schwarber?

It's tricky

Ask White Sox hitting coach Todd Steverson anything — that is, anything but his nickname. Ask Miguel Gonzalez about his 5 pitches — actually, make that 6. And ask Alec Hansen about his fastball — it's "really live."

So popular

Matt Nagy is one of the 32 cool kids now. Which means, more conversations with agents, other coaches and (ugh) media. Is he talking to Jarvis Landry's reps? That addition would certainly help Mitch Trubisky in Year 2.

Lessons learned

If Loyola makes the NCAA tourney for the 1st time since '85 — which the Ramblers can guarantee by winning the MVC tourney — Porter Moser will call the late Rick Majerus: "The number is disconnected. It's symbolic."

Pick up the pace

Fred Hoiberg wants the Bulls to push it (push it real good) en route to finishing in the top 5 in pace over the final 25 games. Let's see how they fare vs. the Mavericks (7 p.m., WGN). And now, some very important soup news.

Unacceptable

The Hawks haven't won a playoff series since the '15 Stanley Cup Final. They haven't won a trade in forever. Last night, they lost their 7th straight road game after allowing 7 straight goals. Not acceptable, says David Haugh.
