Inside Slant

March to remember

Monday, Apr 2

Loyola was never ranked this season. And the Ramblers likely would have missed the NCAA tournament had they not won the Missouri Valley Conference tournament. On Saturday, their season ended one win shy of the national championship game. "I think we inspired a city," Clayton Custer said. "The word Loyola has a whole new meaning now." Steve Rosenbloom said the Ramblers' run shows why sports is the best reality TV show. Now comes the hard part — following up on even higher expectations without Donte Ingram, Ben Richardson and Aundre Jackson. If the new guys need a road map, we've got them covered.

Tonight show

Villanova, with the very serious Jalen Brunson, looks like a team on a mission. Michigan, with the very big Moe Wagner, looks like a team of destiny. Who will win the national championship tonight (8:20 p.m., TBS)?

Luck of the Irish

No one had a better weekend than Notre Dame's Arike Ogunbowale. On Friday, she knocked out undefeated UConn in OT. For an encore last night, she scored the game-winner with 0.1 seconds left for the title. Wow.

Here we woe again

The Cubs' offense was maddening (and Maddoning) last year. This year, 4 games in, it looks as if those inconsistencies are back. Yesterday: "One bad inning" and a split. Today: 1st of 3 vs. the Reds (in progress).

Snow? In April?

The only thing that can stop the hot hot White Sox (2-0!) is the cold cold KC weather. But aha! Tonight's game vs. the Blue Jays is in a dome (6:07 p.m., WGN). Down in the minors, Eloy Jimenez is on the mend (don't panic).

Etc.
