Sloooooooow start

Tuesday, Apr 3

The 2-3 Cubs struck out 11 more times in yesterday's 1-0 loss to the Reds. That brings their season total to 58 through 5 games. Time to panic? "We're not going to ride the roller coaster as hard as everyone else outside," Anthony Rizzo said. "We'll just be fine." OK, if you say so. The not-great offensive outing overshadowed a not-bad Cubs debut for Tyler Chatwood: 1 run in 6 innings. But it wasn't the smoothest of rides … Steve Rosenbloom's early scouting report: Please return your tray table to its locked and upright position. Tonight: Ben Zobrist, who has only struck out once this season, leads things off in the series finale (5:40 p.m., WGN).

Your attention please

Blue Jays' Josh Donaldson doesn't much care for Sox coach Daryl Boston's whistle. And he let him know about it in the Jays' 4-2 win. Tonight: Miguel Gonzalez makes his season debut (6:07 p.m., NBCSCH+).

Confetti season

Villanova won its 2nd title in 3 years — and shock of all shocks, are among the favorites to do it again in 2019. And Donte DiVincenzo, who scored 31 points, deleted his Twitter account after offensive tweets surfaced.

School's back in session

Big day in Bears-land: Players are allowed to walk into Halas Hall and begin new coach Matt Nagy's offseason program. You too, new Bear Earl Watford! Also: Brian Urlacher picked his HOF presenter (hint: it's a former coach).

And another one

Denzel Valentine joins a growing list of Bulls — including Zach LaVine and Kris Dunn — who are out for the season. So tonight should be real special vs. the Hornets (7 p.m., NBCSCH). Cough cough good tank cough cough.

Not so fast

Jonathan Toews practiced so he's all good vs. the Blues tomorrow, yes? Nope, the captain will miss a 6th straight game. And if you're keeping track, Corey Crawford has missed 39 (and counting). Hurry back, Scott Foster.
