Pitching for days

Tuesday, May 1

If your team is back atop the NL Central, scream loudly as you walk off the pitcher's mound — ah, thanks for confirming things, Jon Lester! "It looks like we're going in the right direction," Lester said after the Cubs' 3-2 win over the Rockies on Monday. Reliever Luke Farrell actually earned the win, the first of his MLB career. Look at these numbers: The bullpen has allowed 5 hits and 1 run in its last 12 1/3 innings, while starters haven't allowed an earned run in their last 33 2/3 innings. All those numbers = Cubs have won 5 straight despite scoring 3 or fewer runs in each those games (ahem, batters). Tonight: It's Kyle Hendricks' turn (7:05 p.m., WGN).

20 for 20

Sunday is the 20th anniversary of the day 20-year-old Kerry Wood struck out 20 Astros at Wrigley: "Kerry wasn't old enough to drink, for God's sake. He couldn't even go out in the city of Chicago and order a beer legally."

'Hola, mi amigo'

Ken Williams has urged his Spanish-speaking White Sox players to learn English — at their own pace. Yolmer Sanchez has, and for a really good reason: "So I can talk (trash) to the other guys." Tonight: StL (7:15 p.m., NBCSCH).

Charting for success

Time for Matt Nagy to finish the puzzle with all his fun new draft pieces. Included: Fiery receiver Anthony Miller. Also: The center-turned-guard James Daniels. Not also: Former player Chris Zorich, who has a new job.

Ratings gold

An average (average!) of 5.5 million people watched NFL draft coverage over 3 days. Average! 3 days! The NBA attracted just 3.4 million in 1 night. So yeah, NFL is still king. New today: Rules talk and pain management.

Dancing with the Sports

It's an all-sports edition of "Dancing with the Stars" this season. Sorry, not you David Ross. Notre Dame's Arike Ogunbowale salsa'd, thanks to an NCAA waiver. And Adam Rippon was the best, per usual.

United places new restrictions on pets traveling in cargo after several animal-related incidents

Tuesday, May 1, 2018, 4:25 PM CT

United Airlines is placing new restrictions on the types of pets it will transport in cargo after a series of animal-related incidents led to an internal review earlier this year.

The Chicago-based airline will resume booking pet travel this summer, a practice it halted during the review.
