Hope you're not offended by great defense

Monday, Feb 4

What's that? You were all ready for a high-scoring, down-to-the-last-drive classic Super Bowl on Sunday? Sorry, maybe next year. What unfolded was a workmanlike, 13-3 win for the Patriots over the Rams for New England's record-tying sixth Super Bowl title. Tom Brady was good enough when he needed to be, but this was a day for defensive die-hards, Brad Biggs writes. (And fans of terrific punting.) If that score seems low, that's because it literally was the lowest in Super Bowl history. For that, credit or blame the geniuses behind the defensive game plans. The Bears have an excellent defense, too, though newly minted Hall of Famer Ed Reed says he's not joining coach Matt Nagy's staff.

Feasts for your eyes

Sure sure sure. There were things to watch Sunday besides the football part. Namely commercials, which we have ranked from top to bottom and separated into best and worst. Your choice. Also, Maroon 5 played.

Coach speaks

The Bears' Matt Nagy — NFL Coach of the Year Matt Nagy, that is — had plenty to say this season. On his team, on losing, on the city, on winning. Even on a certain kicker ...

Sleight of stick

Don't listen to the doubters. Patrick Kane definitely has a shot at becoming the NHL's MVP again. This season, as a matter of fact.

500 games of Saader

Brandon Saad, once known as the "man-child," has two Stanley Cup rings and has been hot lately. He does not have a no-trade clause, which could mean he's not staying long. Brent Seabrook, on the other hand, likely isn't going anywhere.

Thumbs still up

Wendell Carter Jr. can't help the Bulls anymore this season. His injured thumb won't let him. But so what? He's already psyched for next season. He can't get enough of film. Or fries. After a vigorous workout, of course.

In a battle of two stingy defenses, the Patriots scored the only touchdown of the game and beat the Rams 13-3 in Super Bowl LIII.

It's New England's sixth championship since 2002, all with quarterback Tom Brady and coach Bill Belichick leading the way.
