Muslim leaders search for 'ways to move forward' with Cubs

Wednesday, Feb 6

One day after Splinter News published racist and Islamophobic emails shared by Cubs family patriarch Joe Ricketts, Muslim leaders in Chicago expressed heartbreak as well as hope that action would be taken on the part of the team. "We're calling for a conversation and ways to move forward," Ahmed Rehab, executive director of the Chicago chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, said Tuesday. Although Cubs Chairman Tom Ricketts issued a statement, Paul Sullivan writes that fans are owed an apology — and more — from team management. At the same time, Phil Rosenthal anticipates that most fans won't bail on the team in the long run.

Ready for Year 2

That was not exactly the Yu Darvish the Cubs thought they were getting when they signed him to a six-year, $126 million deal. But with a surgically repaired arm and great confidence, Darvish is ready to bounce back.

First steps

Speaking of injured starting pitchers, Michael Kopech took his first step toward recovery from Tommy John surgery. No word yet if news of his rehab has lured Manny Machado.

Here ... for now

Bobby Portis is finally fully healthy and posting career-best numbers. So does that mean he's on the way with the trade deadline approaching? He sure hopes not. Anthony Davis, however, wants to move.

Who's got answers?

Fantasy camp aficionados aside, Blackhawks fans want to know what trade value Duncan Keith and Brent Seabrook have. They also are curious about the Hawks' playoffs chances, which were enhanced with Tuesday's win.

Let it out, Coach

How happy were the Illini after they upset No. 9 Michigan State on Tuesday? Coach Brad Underwood was in tears and fans stormed the court. Also in a good mood: Loyola after reclaiming first in the Missouri Valley.
