Progress report

Friday, Dec 29

3 years ago, the 5-10 Bears headed to Minneapolis for their season finale with serious questions about their future and coach Marc Trestman. And here they are again — 5-10 heading into their season finale in Minneapolis with serious questions about their future and coach John Fox. Wasn't that last Halas Hall housekeeping supposed to fix it all? If/when the Bears are in the market for a new coach, here's a name. Here's another one. Here's an in-house name (but he seems like a longshot). Yes, it appears Sunday's postgame show > Sunday's show at U.S. Bank Stadium (noon, FOX). At least there's a roof — because it's DARN cold out there.

Closing time

Wade Davis, who set a Cubs record with 32 straight saves, signed with the Rockies today. Womp womp. He was also the Cubs' lone All-Star representative last season. Kinda rude to do all this on Theo Epstein's birthday, no?

It's been fun, but ...

When Nikola Mirotic returned, the Bulls were unbeatable. And that's exactly why David Haugh says he needs to be traded. ASAP. That can't happen before Jan. 15, 2018 though, so he'll play tonight vs. Pacers (7 p.m., WGN).

Raise a Glass

Jeff Glass has been called up by the Blackhawks 3 times this year — but has never played in a game. Perhaps tonight vs. the Oilers (8 p.m., NBCSCH)? Last night: A 3rd straight Hawks loss — and an injured player.

In progress

Currently: Northwestern vs. Kentucky in the Music City Bowl. Earlier today: Our intrepid reporter ate some very hot chicken. Earlier in the week: The same reporter watched some surprising Northwestern game film.

Etc.

2017: The year of the social media struggle. Just ask Jemele Hill, who was suspended by ESPN. Or Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield, who didn't take too kindly to a diss. See you next year! But not you. You're annoying.
