Optus adds 'record' 127k mobile customers

Optus has announced net profit of AU$262 million for the quarter on revenue of AU$2.33 billion, with the telco attributing this to the addition of 127,000 post-paid mobile customers.

DCFS worker who was beaten when she tried to take child into protective custody has died, officials say

An Illinois Department of Children and Family Services employee beaten last fall while she tried to take a child into protective custody has died, officials said Tuesday.

Pamela Knight, 59, of Dixon, who was attacked on Sept. 29 while she tried to take a 2-year-old boy into protective custody in western Illinois, died Tuesday morning during a stay at a Chicago hospital.

Dow falls more than 1,000 points, loses 4 percent, as market losses deepen

Stocks plunged again Thursday, extending a streak of losses that has yanked the market away from record highs. The Dow Jones industrial average slumped more than 1,000 points, a drop of more than 4 percent. The tumult started last Friday as investors worried about signs of rising inflation.
