The rebuild continues

Thursday, Feb 8

The NBA trade deadline is over. Let's see how the local team did … The Bulls sent Jameer Nelson (no, that's not a mistake — he was a Bull for a week) to the Pistons for Willie Reed (who was then waived) and also sent Milocan Rakovic (no that's not a mistake — the Bulls have had his rights since 2014 even though he's never played) to the Trail Blazers for Noah Vonleh. Not the most exciting day. At least not in comparison to the Cavaliers, who traded Dwyane Wade, Derrick Rose and Isaiah Thomas. Good lord. But this is exciting: Kris Dunn is out of the concussion protocol and on track to play next week. And Lauri Markkanen is back from paternity leave and on track to play tomorrow. Us? We're excited to make snow angels.

Double dog dare ya

Just try and hide from the Olympics — NBC is everywhere (quick, look behind you!). Tonight's slate: Figure skating and freestyle skiing moguls. Earlier: History for a Barrington ski jumper and travel woes for Lindsey Vonn.

Early mistake?

It was a feel good story: Erin Hamlin was selected as the U.S. flagbearer for tomorrow's opening ceremony. Then 5-time Olympian Shani Davis tweeted. And AP's Paul Newberry writes that Team USA got it wrong.

LOL Brewers

The Brewers are pre-selling tickets to this season's slate of Cubs games at Miller Park. But only to Wisconsin residents. Cool story, guys. The Cubs have bigger things to worry about — as do the unsigned free agents.

Ab drab

If the Hawks want to keep their slim playoff hopes alive, their core must start performing. And we don't just mean their abs. Tonight: Home vs. the Stars (7:30 p.m., NBCSCH). Soon: Olympic hockey, sans NHL players.

Work to be done

The Bears had one of their worst receiver groups last season — Kendall Wright was the "best" with 25 catches. If any of them want to have Brian Urlacher problems (picking a Hall of Fame introducer), they better get to gettin'.

CPS cancels Friday classes as city braces for 24-hour storm expected to dump up to 14 inches

Thursday, February 8, 2018, 4:28 PM CT

A powerful winter storm that could bring up to 14 inches of snow to some areas was bearing down on Chicago and the suburbs late Thursday, leading city and transportation officials from around the region to sound an alarm over deteriorating road conditions while public transit officials braced for the worst.

Chicago Public Schools called off classes for Friday, joining a host of suburban districts who decided on a snow day for students.
