Wednesday, Dec 19 5 Bears —Akiem Hicks, Kyle Fuller, Eddie Jackson, Khalil Mack and Tarik Cohen — received Pro Bowl invites yesterday. Of course, none of them will be able to play in the Jan. 27 game because the Bears will be playing in the Super Bowl (wink wink nudge nudge Bearsssssssss). There hasn't been this many Bears in the NFL's all-star game since the 2012 season and, somewhat shockingly, these are their 1st defensive selections since Tim Jennings in 2013. And, just for good measure, 7 Bears were named alternates (including Mitch Trubisky and Roquan Smith). See kids, that's what happens when you go from worst-to-first in the NFC North. How did we all not see this resurgence coming? Rich Campbell and Dan Wiederer tackle that subject in this week's Real Talk (and also, in this week's Facebook Live with a cameo from a Halas Hall Christmas tree). In his mailbag, Brad Biggs answers all your burning Bears questions, including why Leonard Floyd always plays so well vs. the Packers. Hint: He's lactose intolerant-* (*-this probably isn't true). | | |
The Cubs signed a guy who can play all 4 infield positions + left field. Gee, no pitching? Daniel Descalso's 2-year deal is worth $5M. Not to be outdone, ex-Cub/current Grandpa David Ross inked an extension with ESPN.

The Sox are going after the top 2 FAs in Bryce Harper and Manny Machado. Who is the better fit? More importantly, who has more Instagram followers? Paul Sullivan breaks it down and makes his pick for the South Siders.

The Hawks won a game at home they probably should have won, so that's a fun development. It was their 1st game without goalie Corey Crawford (concussion) and Henri Jokiharju (going to play in Finland for a bit).

Pat Fitzgerald, the current Big Ten Coach of the Year, is currently not pleased with the Big Ten. Why? It has to do with Friday night lights (no, not the best TV show ever). Maybe he'll be happier after today's early signing day.

Northern Illinois football is on the wrong end of a bad streak — last night's 37-13 loss in the Boca Raton Bowl was the Huskies' 6th straight bowl defeat. "They ran by us," said NIU coach Rod Carey of UAB.
