Fifteen finalists for a holiday-themed Tweet of the Week have been posted. My favorite: "I'll bet the other two wise men were like, 'The gold is from all of us,' by @NotthatAdamWest. Last week's winner was "I offer my kids $500 for every A on their report card. It sends the message that education is a priority in our household and it costs me absolutely nothing since my kids aren't that bright," by @HenpeckedHal,.

Also check out Tweets of Good Cheer, the Top 10 Winter-Holiday tweets of all time including a raft of runners up.

I didn't write much last week because of Songs of Good Cheer – six sold out programs at the Old Town School of Folk Music hosted by me and Mary Schmich.  The SOGC Facebook page includes a link to the column of Mary's from which I read, audio of her beloved song, etc.

The photo gallery from the show is here and includes Ken Carl shots like these:

Wednesday's column is Devilishly clever statue gets a rise out of the faithful

Were it not for the grabby allusion to the Prince of Darkness, the Satanic Temple's display in the Capitol rotunda in Springfield would be far more subtle and less offensive to believers than the Freedom From Religion Foundation's winter solstice message posted in the rotunda that "Religion is but a myth and superstition that hardens hearts and enslaves minds."

Yet the Temple's deployment of the word "Satanic" has prompted a gasping overreaction that's been covered by news outlets literally around the world and that's served to amplify its message promoting strict separation of church and state and "rational inquiry removed from supernaturalism."
